Mrs. Janet Marie Ballance Gayton, age 82, a resident of Chocowinity, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, at her daughter’s home.

A graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, 2020, at Pamlico Memorial Gardens and will be officiated by Joe Ange. Pallbearers include Jake Jarvis, Nikki Hopkins, Tony Padgett, Will Sandy, James Allen and Thurman Frady. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Jarvis and J.T. Carter.

Mrs. Gayton was born in Beaufort County on Sept. 7, 1938, to the late Elijah Hood Ballance and Pearl McDonald Ballance. She attended Chocowinity High School. Mrs. Gayton retired from Kmart. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, her church and traveling to Florida and the Bahamas.

Survivors include her three children, Linda Morgan Lee, Randall Morgan, Donna Kay Morgan and husband Randy Cabe, all of Chocowinity; two grandchildren, Amanda Carter and husband J.T., Brandy Jarvis and husband Wayne; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alisha Morgan; a brother, Raymond Balance; and two sisters, Hazel Campbell and Malinda Daniels.

The family will receive friends following the service.
