Local author, educator and historian Chris Barber investigates the eighteenth-century beginnings of the evolution of faith and culture that laid the foundation for Washington County’s Rehoboth Methodist Church in his new book, “The Tie That Binds: Rehoboth Church and 300 Years of Worship Along the South Shore of the Albemarle Sound”.

The primitive Greek revival structure, built in 1853, and on the National Register of Historic Places, is on NC Highway 32 North in rural Roper near the old Pea Ridge Y which is a mile from he foot of the Albemarle Sound bridge.

The book examines Rehoboth’s years as an active church from 1853 through 1969, and also spotlights the many volunteers who have helped to keep the church’s doors open for a few services each year for the last fifty years. An appendix lists names of people found in old church records.

All proceeds from the sale of the book benefit Rehoboth Church Preservation Society, Inc. for continued maintenance and preservation projects at Rehoboth.

Books are $23 and can be purchased locally by contacting Chris Barber at 252 793-5383 to arrange for pick up. To order a copy by mail, send a check for $29.50 (includes shipping and handling) made out to the Society to RCPS P.O. Box 160 Roper, NC 27970.
