Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,068 Monday, after hitting the 1,000-case benchmark a week ago. There are now 154 active cases in the county, and nine people are hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 890 of the 1,068 total positive cases have recovered from the virus; 24 Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,105,604 Sunday to 7,139,734 Monday; these numbers include 2,766,304 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 33,230,260 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 204,967 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 243 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 207,349 Sunday to 208,226 Monday. There have been 3,445 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of four overnight. The state currently has 897 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 184,422 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (590), Beaufort (1,068), Bladen (907), Brunswick (1,642), Carteret (713), Camden (115), Chowan (360), Columbus (1,377), Craven (1,636), Currituck (184); Dare (274), Duplin (2,379), Edgecombe (1,366), Gates (142), Greene (607), Halifax (1,030), Hertford (755), Hyde (125), Jones (159), Lenoir (1,016), Martin (462), New Hanover (4,316), Northampton (454), Onslow (2,205), Pamlico (270), Pasquotank (710), Pender (968), Perquimans (187), Pitt (4,931), Sampson (2,240), Tyrrell (117), Washington (208), Wayne (3,390) and Wilson (2,252). Guilford (8,635), Mecklenburg (28,774) and Wake (17,651) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 15,486 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 1,068 positives. Since March, 56 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county, and currently one person is ventilated.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
