Absentee ballot requests skyrocket in Tyrrell

As of Sept. 25 the Tyrrell County Board of Elections office had received 118 absentee ballot requests for the Nov. 3 general election, Emily Hodges, elections director, said Monday. Total of such requests received in the last presidential election (2016) was 36, she added.
Tyrrell County currently has 2,284 registered voters, Hodges reported.
There are 1,158 Democrats, 390 Republicans, 724 unaffiliated, and 10 Libertarians. Green and Constitutional parties are not represented in Tyrrell.
The number of black voters in 684, white 1,424, American Indian 7, Asian 17, multi-racial 6, other races 36, undesignated 110.
Female voters outnumber males 1,161 to 1,029, but 94 did not designate sex when they registered.
Tyrrell County’s one-stop early voting will be held in the Board of Elections office in the Courthouse at 403 Main Street, Columbia, according to the following schedule:
October 15 &16, Thurs & Fri 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
October 17, Saturday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
October 19-23, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
October 24, Saturday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
October 26-30, Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
October 31, Saturday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Polls will be open in the precincts from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 3.
