Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,074 Tuesday, after hitting the 1,000-case benchmark Sept. 21. There are now 159 active cases in the county, and six people are hospitalized, according to the Tuesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 890 of the 1,074 total positive cases have recovered from the virus; 25 Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 7,139,734 Monday to 7,176,111 Tuesday; these numbers include 2,794,608 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 33,477,825 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 205,676 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 709 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 208,226 Monday to 209,136 Tuesday. There have been 3,494 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 49 overnight. The state currently has 950 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 184,422 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Tuesday numbered (does not include number of recovered): Bertie (594), Beaufort (1,074), Bladen (914), Brunswick (1,646), Carteret (718), Camden (115), Chowan (361), Columbus (1,378), Craven (1,669), Currituck (184); Dare (272), Duplin (2,394), Edgecombe (1,373), Gates (144), Greene (618), Halifax (1,040), Hertford (755), Hyde (126), Jones (159), Lenoir (1,014), Martin (461), New Hanover (4,328), Northampton (459), Onslow (2,237), Pamlico (270), Pasquotank (709), Pender (966), Perquimans (187), Pitt (4,945), Sampson (2,250), Tyrrell (116), Washington (209), Wayne (3,400) and Wilson (2,262). Guilford (8,689), Mecklenburg (28,844) and Wake (17,681) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 15,579 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuesday, with 1,074 positives. Since March, 60 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county, and currently one person is ventilated.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
