Ms. Gayle Lynn Styons, age 67, a resident of Washington, died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2020, at Vidant Beaufort Hospital.

Per Ms. Styons’ wishes, no service will be held but a gathering of friends at the home will take place later.

Ms. Styons was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on March 5, 1953, daughter of the late William Clarence Cunningham and the late Velma Wilson Cunningham. She graduated from high school in Cleveland and attended Milligan College in Tennessee. Many would remember her from when she was a waitress at Pizza Inn in Washington, but her true love was being a substitute teacher for Beaufort County Schools for 10 years. She was a huge fan of Star Trek and was involved in the Washington High School Band Booster Club, Girl Scouts and anything her children were involved in. She would encourage anyone to “boldly go where no man has gone before.”

Survivors include her children: Cheri Ann Styons and William David Styons, both of Washington; a sister, Sharon C. Fennell (Dewayne), of New Hampshire; and four grandchildren, D.J., Bella, Kenny and Alissa Styons.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Johns Hopkins Medicine, COVID-19 Research, 750 E. Pratt St., 17th Floor, Baltimore, MD 21202.

Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Styons family.
