Lois Hollowell Chenault passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020.
Lois was born April 29, 1945, in Raleigh, to Helen and Jesse Hollowell. She is survived her husband, John P. Chenault, and sisters, Barbara Lyon (John) and Mary Lou Stephens (Grady), and four adoring nieces and nephews and their families.
Lois received her Master’s in Education from East Carolina University in 1978. She retired from teaching at Bath School after 30-plus years; teaching fourth-grade English and writing to every student at Bath. Lois was Teacher of the Year in Region 1 and Beaufort County in 1986. She loved all her students, which were many over the 30 years, resulting in three generations in some families. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teaching society.
Lois and John enjoyed shag dancing and were inducted in four Hall of Fame organizations in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. She will be missed by many friends and students.
A family memorial service in Wake Forest will be held later, due to the COVID virus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Beaufort County Humane Society, P.O. Box 33, Washington, NC 27889.
Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.paulfuneralhome.com.
Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington is honored to serve the Chenault family.
