COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,326 Monday. There are now 199 active cases in the county, and 11 people are hospitalized, according to the Monday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 1,091 of the 1,326 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Thirty-six Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 27 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,086,780 Saturday to 8,201,554 Monday; these numbers include 3,234,183 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 40,269,921 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 220,020 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,610 overnight.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina continued to rise from 243,725 Saturday to 247,172 Monday. There have been 3,929 deaths in the state attributed to the virus. The state currently has 1,142 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 218,541 people are presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday numbered: Bertie (692), Beaufort (1,326), Bladen (1,042), Brunswick (2,033), Carteret (997), Camden (133), Chowan (491), Columbus (1,583), Craven (2,122), Currituck (216); Dare (337), Duplin (2,664), Edgecombe (1,803), Gates (162), Greene (854), Halifax (1,278), Hertford (845), Hyde (174), Jones (174), Lenoir (1,291), Martin (596), New Hanover (4,917), Northampton (526), Onslow (2,951), Pamlico (300), Pasquotank (823), Pender (1,193), Perquimans (230), Pitt (5,837), Sampson (2,548), Tyrrell (123), Washington (236), Wayne (4,190) and Wilson (2,719). Guilford (10,514), Mecklenburg (31,820) and Wake (19,888) counties have the most cases in North Carolina.

There had been 18,470 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 1,326 positives. Since March, 71 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
