COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,397 Monday. There are now 166 active cases in the county, and eight people are hospitalized, according to the Friday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department.

According to the update, 1,188 of the 1,397 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-three Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 29 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Friday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,627,274 Sunday to 8,679,483 Monday; these numbers include 3,422,934 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 43,363,298 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 225,495 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 805 overnight.

Monday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 261,742, with 4,170 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, 1,193 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Monday numbered: Bertie (724), Beaufort (1,397), Bladen (1,077), Brunswick (2,160), Carteret (1,113), Camden (135), Chowan (524), Columbus (1,671), Craven (2,288), Currituck (222); Dare (367), Duplin (2,755), Edgecombe (1,961), Gates (167), Greene (941), Halifax (1,383), Hertford (852), Hyde (175), Jones (198), Lenoir (1,418), Martin (634), New Hanover (5,192), Northampton (556), Onslow (3,225), Pamlico (312), Pasquotank (858), Pender (1,356), Perquimans (244), Pitt (6,102), Sampson (2,702), Tyrrell (130), Washington (246), Wayne (4,494) and Wilson (2,937).  Durham (8,890), Guilford (11,200), Mecklenburg (33,279) and Wake (20,765) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 18,861 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Monday, with 1,397 positives. Since March, 73 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
