COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,411 Wednesday. There are now 142 active cases in the county, and seven people are hospitalized, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department. One of the hospitalized is on a ventilator.

According to the update, 1,226 of the 1,411 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-three Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 29 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,755,581 Tuesday to 8,833,396 Wednesday; these numbers include 3,487,666 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 44,304,816 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 227,320 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 937 overnight.

Wednesday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 266,136, with 4,245 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 34 overnight. There are currently 1,193 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered: Bertie (726), Beaufort (1,411), Bladen (1,088), Brunswick (2,186), Carteret (1,137), Camden (135), Chowan (529), Columbus (1,704), Craven (2,329), Currituck (224); Dare (370), Duplin (2,795), Edgecombe (1,988), Gates (168), Greene (955), Halifax (1,416), Hertford (852), Hyde (174), Jones (200), Lenoir (1,450), Martin (640), New Hanover (5,254), Northampton (562), Onslow (3,329), Pamlico (318), Pasquotank (873), Pender (1,398), Perquimans (250), Pitt (6,142), Sampson (2,750), Tyrrell (132), Washington (250), Wayne (4,589) and Wilson (2,994).  Durham (9,021), Guilford (11,376), Mecklenburg (33,779) and Wake (21,145) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 19,062 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Wednesday, with 1,411 positives. Since March, 75 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
