COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,423 Thursday. There are now 139 active cases in the county, and nine people are hospitalized, according to the Thursday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department. One of the hospitalized is on a ventilator.

According to the update, 1,239 of the 1,423 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-five Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 29 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 8,833,396 Wednesday to 8,922,632 Thursday; these numbers include 3,518,140 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 44,854,913 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 229,370 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,050 overnight.

Thursday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 269,021, with 4,283 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 38 overnight. There are currently 1,181 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Thursday numbered: Bertie (729), Beaufort (1,423), Bladen (1,090), Brunswick (2,201), Carteret (1,149), Camden (137), Chowan (532), Columbus (1,714), Craven (2,369), Currituck (224); Dare (373), Duplin (2,812), Edgecombe (2,020), Gates (168), Greene (962), Halifax (1,434), Hertford (864), Hyde (175), Jones (201), Lenoir (1,470), Martin (647), New Hanover (5,305), Northampton (566), Onslow (3,394), Pamlico (323), Pasquotank (881), Pender (1,407), Perquimans (251), Pitt (6,196), Sampson (2,802), Tyrrell (132), Washington (253), Wayne (4,642) and Wilson (3,056). Durham (9,101), Guilford (11,581), Mecklenburg (33,988) and Wake (21,344) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 19,164 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Thursday, with 1,423 positives. Since March, 76 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
