From NC Community Outreach & Wellness Center/Justice Reinvestment Group of NC

NC Community Outreach & Wellness Center Inc/Justice Reinvestment Group, Advance Carolina and Black Voters Matter are teaming up with several organizations on Nov. 1 for

We Got the Power Caravan, a Board of Elections prayer and community feeding. We will be meeting at Citi Trends Parking Lot in Greenville at 10 a.m. sharp, followed by a drive to the Beaufort County Board of Elections at 12:30 p.m.

The significance of the Board of Elections is that Beaufort County does not have Sunday voting this year, and it was just in early 2000 that the late Rev. David Moore had to file a class-action lawsuit against the county on behalf of the voters of Beaufort County alleging the system of at-large elections denied black voters an equal opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.

We will meet local clergy there to pray for our community, election and officials. We will be caravanning through Beaufort County, then meeting back at Beebe Memorial Park, 1101 N. Bridge St., at 4 p.m. for a community block party and community feeding.

We want to get the message out to minorities in Beaufort County the importance of their vote and how voting can work to make change.
