Mr. Gerald Wayne Woolard, better known as “Pappy,” age 59, a resident of 443 Tranters Creek Drive, Washington, died at home on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020, at Alligood Church of God, officiated by Pastor Philip Jethro and Pastor Gary Bateman. Burial will follow in the Woolard Family Cemetery. Billy “Buck” Anderson, Earl Harris, Keith Harrell, Michael “Mike” Tetterton, Ellis Ray Cullipher and Jonathan Cullipher will serve as pallbearers. Jeffrey “Jeff” Woolard, Chad Bass and Mack Potter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Mr. Woolard was born in Beaufort County on Jan. 8, 1961, son of the late Ellis Edward Woolard Sr. and Lillie Bell Woolard. On Dec. 12, 2000, he married the former Teresa Knox, who survives. Mr. Woolard was self-employed in the business of sand blasting and painting. He was a member of Alligood Church of God. He enjoyed his grandkids, cooking, fishing and traveling with friends. There was never a dull moment when he was around.

In addition to his wife, Teresa, of the home, he is survived by his children, David Wayne Woolard (Wendy), Toni Renee Woolard, Valerie Rawls Verdin (Jose); his mother-in-law, Peggy Ross; his brothers and sisters, Rodman Frayle Woolard (Diana), Ellis Edward “Bill” Woolard Jr. (Linda), Annie Ruth Cullipher (Gene) and Martha Jane Gurganus (Dwayne); his sister-in-law, Ann Knox; and his grandchildren, Gabriel “Gabe” Jayden Purcella, Haley Quinn Woolard, Caleb Matthew Woolard and Mariah Grace Verdin; and many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, Neva Pearl and Rachael Woolard; and his nephew, Collins Paul Etheridge.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
