COVID-19: state stats at a glance

Total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Beaufort County numbered 1,465 Wednesday. There are now 113 active cases in the county, and five people are hospitalized, according to the Wednesday update from Beaufort County Emergency Services and Beaufort County Health Department. One of the hospitalized is on a ventilator.

According to the update, 1,305 of the 1,465 total positive cases have recovered from the virus. Forty-seven Beaufort County residents have died due to complications from the virus; 35 of those were residents of local nursing homes, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services “Ongoing Outbreaks in Congregate Living Settings” report, which was last updated on Tuesday afternoon.

The total number of cases that have been confirmed in the U.S. rose from 9,344,717 Tuesday to 9,454,704 Wednesday; these numbers include 3,705,130 people in the U.S. presumed recovered from COVID-19. The U.S. has the highest total number of cases worldwide; worldwide, there have been 47,902,287 confirmed cases. Nationwide, 233,385 deaths have been attributed to the virus, an increase of 1,183 overnight.

Wednesday’s update reported confirmed COVID-19 cases in North Carolina numbering 282,802, with 4,507 deaths in the state attributed to the virus, an increase of 50 overnight. There are currently 1,186 COVID-19 associated hospitalizations and 231,611 people presumed recovered from the virus in North Carolina.

Eastern North Carolina counties total COVID-19 cases as of Wednesday numbered: Bertie (743), Beaufort (1,465), Bladen (1,121), Brunswick (2,296), Carteret (1,248), Camden (144), Chowan (546), Columbus (1,815), Craven (2,485), Currituck (232); Dare (400), Duplin (2,905), Edgecombe (2,114), Gates (172), Greene (985), Halifax (1,526), Hertford (873), Hyde (177), Jones (206), Lenoir (1,563), Martin (688), New Hanover (5,551), Northampton (602), Onslow (3,695), Pamlico (334), Pasquotank (909), Pender (1,486), Perquimans (266), Pitt (6,445), Sampson (2,940), Tyrrell (132), Washington (273), Wayne (4,851) and Wilson (3,248). Durham (9,458), Guilford (12,272), Mecklenburg (35,390) and Wake (22,303) have had the most total case counts in the state.

There had been 19,601 tests completed in Beaufort County as of Tuseday, with 1,456 positives. Since March, 77 COVID-19-related hospitalizations have occurred in the county.

Cumulative numbers include tests performed at the health department and reporting private medical facilities through the county. Beaufort County’s percentage of deaths per total cases is 3.2%.

The update reminded county residents to “practice the Three W’s:” wear face coverings, wait six feet apart and wash your hands often.
