Ella Carawan Davis peacefully passed from us on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020.
She was born to Robert Marcus and Deb Jarvis Carawan, on Feb. 6, 1924, in Swan Quarter.
Ella was preceded in death by her brother, Robert E. Carawan, and her sister, Sybil C. Bouchard. She was married to the late Harry L. Davis Jr. and was the proud mother of Harry L. Davis III (Theresa) and Lynne Logan (Phil). She truly loved being the grandmother to Cameron, Rolley (Laura), Benjamin (Brooke) and Austin, and the great-grandmother to Grady and Evelyn. Ella cherished her extended family of Tammy Davis, Georgine and Dennis Armstrong, Beverly, David, Perry, and Leah Smith, Ed, Mary, Jake, and Nick Armstrong, Brian, Jennifer, Blake, and Jason Armstrong, Jane, Timmie, and Bruce Hodges, and Bob, Louise, and Benjamin Carawan.
Ella grew up in Swan Quarter. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from East Carolina Teachers’ College (ECU). After graduation, she served as a Home Demonstration agent with the North Carolina Extension Service. In 1951, she married Harry and moved to Virginia. She raised her family and earned her master’s degree from Virginia Tech. Ella taught Home Economics in Virginia Beach until her retirement in 1986.
