William Edward “Ed’ Cherry, Sr., age 89, a resident of Washington, NC died Saturday, November 14, 2020 at his home.

A graveside service was held at 11:00 AM Monday November 16, 2020 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington and was officiated by Ray West. Pallbearers included Ed Cherry, Jr., Brandon Cherry, Chris Cherry, Buddy Spain, Roger Warner, Austin Rager, and Robert Saunders.

Mr. Cherry was born in Beaufort County on April 26, 1931 to the late Henry Churchill Cherry and Violet Mae Perry Cherry. On March 25, 1950 he married Frocine Mae Cox Cherry who preceded him in death on February 25, 2019. Mr. Cherry loved working in his garden and even gave what he grew away. He also enjoyed helping people. He was a member of First Church of Christ in Washington.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Woolard of Washington, Linda Ray Foreman of Chocowinity; a son, Ed Cherry, Jr. and wife Debora of Washington; six grandchildren, Roxann Spain, Roger Warner, Chris Cherry, Tracie Cherry, Amanda Leggett, Brandon Cherry; six great grandchildren, Jessica Alligood, Samantha Polk, Gage Warner, Savannah Carawan, Gavin Paramore, Karson Leggett; and two great great-grandchildren, Makayla Kirk, Phoenix Warner and a brother, James Cherry.

He is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Alice Cherry, and a grandson, Clinton Warner.

The family received friends following the service at the cemetery.
