RALEIGH — N.C. House District 79 Rep. Keith Kidwell this week was appointed co-chair of the House Finance Committee and chair of the Banking Committee.

The Finance Committee provides financial oversight services, among other duties. When any other committee favorably reports a bill that “raises revenue, reduces revenue, levies a tax, authorizes the levying of a tax, an assessment, or a fee, or authorizes the issue of bonds or notes, whether public or local,” the Finance Committee must review that bill before it is acted on by the House, according to state law.

The other co-chair of the Finance Committee is District 27 Rep. Michael Wray. The senior chairs are Reps. John Bradford,  Julia Howard, Mitchell Setzer and John Szoka.

The Banking Committee hears and processes bills involving banking and finance companies.

“I would like to thank Speaker (Tim) Moore for the opportunity to serve, as well as the voters of the 79th District for allowing me to return to Raleigh,” Kidwell said in a statement. “It is an honor to be selected and I am looking forward to the 2021-2022 session. There is a lot of work to be accomplished.”

“I have spent my life dealing with the tax laws and how they impact all of us,” Kidwell added in a Facebook post. “Now over the next two years, I will be able to use that experience to help improve the tax system in North Carolina.”
