Mr. James Willis Morgan, Sr.  passed peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 2:18 PM, surrounded by his immediate family.  He was 78 years old.  He was born in Elizabeth City to Jesse Martin and Ethel Perry Morgan.

He  is survived by his devoted, loving wife of over 56 years, Wilma Godley Morgan, his beloved daughter, Tina Morgan Allen, his son, James Willis Morgan, Jr, a grandson, Tucker Cole Mooring, a granddaughter, Abigail Ryan Mooring, and a son-in-law, Dennis Ray Allen.  He is also survived by his two sisters, Dorothy Morgan Sullivan and Barbara Morgan Chitmon, and a countless number of family and friends.

Although James Morgan was born in Elizabeth City, he made his home in Bath, North Carolina, where he was a pillar of the local community as co-owner of Brooks Grocery for over forty years.  A lover of family, golf, horses and antique cars, he was a friend to all and will be missed by the entire community, which he loved.  He was also never known to miss any of his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Due to the continuing pandemic, a private memorial will be held.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations on his behalf to the BOCO EMS, 121 W. 3rd Street, Washington, NC 27889, who provided excellent and compassionate service to him and his family throughout his illness.
