After learning that its newest allocation of COVID-19 vaccines will again be far less than what the county has requested, Beaufort County Health Director Jim Madson said Friday that the health department doesn’t have the resources to schedule additional appointments next week, but appointments that are already scheduled will be fulfilled.

Madson says the health department will receive 200 vaccines to be administered next week. That’s a decrease of 100 vaccines from the most recent allotment. In an open letter to Beaufort County residents last week, Madson said he had asked the state for an allocation of at least 800 vaccines per week.

“At this time there are no available appointments nor the ability to open more appointments, due to very limited vaccine,” Madson said in a statement. “Our main goal continues to be to vaccinate all those who are interested in the COVID-19 vaccine as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please continue to monitor www.bchd.net for updated information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, as well as the transitions as we move through the various phases of vaccination.”

As of Wednesday, 2,455 Beaufort County residents had received their first of two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. The health department administered 1,752 of those doses, and the department’s partners or other counties handled the rest.

The state informs the health department of its vaccine allocations on a week-by-week basis. Check thewashingtondailynews.com for up-to-the-minute updates about COVID-19 in Beaufort County.
