Washington High School swimmers are planning on making a big splash at the 2A East Regional meet Saturday at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.

Senior Tristan Pake qualified second in the 200 Individual Medley and third in 100 Butterfly. He finished 10th in the state in that event last year as a junior. Pake is also part of the 200 and 400 Freestyle relay teams that qualified fourth and fifth along with sophomores Austin Waters, John Hinchey and Connor Lewis.

Waters also qualified ninth in the 100 and 200 Freestyle. Hinchey will compete in the 100 Breaststroke (5th) and the 500 Freestyle (6th).

The girls 200 Medley and 200 Freestyle relay teams qualified seventh in both events. Seniors Savanna Craft, Chandler Woolard and Anna Yoder along with sophomore Abby Lewis will team up in both.

Yoder will also compete in the 200 Individual Medley (7th) and the 500 Freestyle (9th), while Lewis qualified ninth in the 100 Butterfly.

Senior Grayson Spruill rounds out the list as she qualified 10th in 50 Freestyle.

“The kids are excited that the regional meet actually looks like it will be held,” first-year coach Kendall Cox said. “COVID-19 has changed a lot of the procedures, but at least they get a chance to compete. I’m very pleased with the number of swimmers who qualified and am hoping for a good outcome.”

The top four finishers will advance to the state meet the following weekend that will also be held at the Triangle Aquatic Center in Cary.
