The Washington High School boys soccer team advanced to the second round of the 2A state playoffs with a 4-0 victory over Trinity High School near High Point Wednesday evening at North Pitt High School.

The Pam Pack (12-0) was the host team but couldn’t play at home because the field at Wagner Stadium was too wet from the recent rain.

“That’s been the situation most of the year, so it felt like just another road trip to us,” coach Jim Kozuch said. “We’ve only had two home games because of weather-related drainage problems, and we are grateful to North Pitt for letting us use their field.”

Senior Bryan Martinez started the scoring for WHS, then Luke Brown found the net to make it 2-0. Senior Brandon Cox scored back-to-back goals for a 4-0 halftime lead. The Pack will play Jordan-Matthews of Siler City Friday at a site to be determined.

“We were able to stop Trinity’s good offensive players and capitalized on their mistakes,” Kozuch said. “We played a full game defensively and didn’t give up any bad goals. We prepared ourselves to win, came out strong and didn’t flinch. Jordan-Matthews is a name you hear every year in the playoffs, and they are very well-coached. We’re excited to continue our season against them.”
