As a part of its ongoing celebration of the agency’s 60th anniversary, the Washington Housing Authority Board of Commissioners honored its longest-serving board member Thursday evening.

The seven-member WHA board includes one resident; Josephine Royster has held that position since 1994. She is currently in her 27th year as a member of the board, and she is the only remaining member of the original board that signed the letters of incorporation for WHA’s nonprofit arm, under which Clifton Meadows Apartments was constructed.

Alice Mills-Sadler, chairwoman of the WHA board, described Royster as a strong advocate for safe and clean communities. Royster serves on the board’s Building and Grounds Committee.

During the board’s meeting Thursday, Mayor Donald Sadler honored Royster with a proclamation, and Mills-Sadler presented her with a customized elevated garden bed to be installed at a home Royster recently moved in to.
