Community celebrates Easter holiday with events

This weekend marks the Easter holiday celebrated around the world by individuals of the Christian faith. Several events are being held throughout the community to celebrate. 

The town of Belhaven is holding Easter Fest on Saturday, April 3 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Market. The event is being put on by the town’s Parks and Recreation Commission. There will be three different Easter egg hunts for children ages 1 to 9. Children 1-3 years old will be able to participate from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., children 4-6 years old can hunt for eggs from 12:30 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and children ages 7-9 can participate from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. In addition to the egg hunt, the event will also have food and goods for purchase such as funnel cakes, cotton candy, shaved ice, Jamaican cuisine, barbecue, shrimp, jewelry, holistic health items and more. 

An Easter egg hunt will take place in Chocowinity at the Chocowinity Recreation Complex from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 3. The egg hunt will accommodate young children and those at elementary school age. Additional items will be available to guests and hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided to those in attendance while supplies last. 

On Saturday, April 3 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Athens Chapel Church of Christ in Bath will host an Easter egg hunt on their property. In addition to the egg hunt, there will also be crafts, egg coloring, and a meal served to attendants. 

Another Easter egg hunt will be held at Covenant Church in Washington from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 4. Free breakfast will be available for all in attendance. 

All of these events will be free to the public. Precautions like masks and social distancing are encouraged to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
