ENGELHARD — N.C. Cooperative Extension of Hyde County reached out to the Engelhard Christian Church last year with the idea of building a Blessing box for the local community. Their Teen Group jumped at the idea and built it without hesitation! This month, local volunteers, Robert Wayne and Zac Eakes, set to work to permanently anchor the box in a well-known and frequented area that is accessible to both adults and youth. The Church’s Teen Group will maintain the responsibility to keep the pantry stocked, though you are welcome to add items as you wish. If you choose to donate, be sure to leave items that are shelf-stable (nothing from the fridge or freezer or that has been opened). There are also general toiletries available, such as toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, body wash, and contact containers.

This Blessing Box is located in front of the Hyde County Department of Social Services. If you are in need of a few snacks or personal hygiene items, Engelhard Christian Church encourages you to take what you need. You can visit the box any time of day, and there is no requirement for eligibility. Please contact Nikki Edge, pastor@engelhardchristianchurch.com, with any questions about this specific box.

If you or your organization are interested in building and maintaining a Blessing box in your community, please contact your FCS Agent, CatieJo Black, at catiejo_black@ncsu.edu or 252-926-5263.
