A wide-ranging and cost-free health fair organized and supported by local church, healthcare and business groups will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Beaufort County Community College.

The theme of the event is “Re-engage, Re-energize, Re-new 2021” and is organized by Cornerstone Family Worship Center, through its Community Based and BCH3C (Beaufort County Health Clergy, Congregations and Communities) programs.

“This Health-A-Thon is the first event of its kind since the COVID-19 pandemic hit us, and it will be all about healthy lifestyles, wellness and fitness,” said Bishop James S. McIntyre Sr., who is senior pastor at Cornerstone.

The last event of its kind was held in 2019 at Festival Park and, in similar fashion, McIntyre said the intent of this year’s organizers has been to “bring together resources and information to improve the quality of life for people in our area.”

The community college’s one-mile I.M.FITT Walking Trail will be open, and free fitness equipment will be accessible during the event. Other offerings include free COVID-19 tests administered by OptumRx and COVID-19 vaccines administered by Beaufort County Health Department staff, as well as A1C and blood pressure tests given by Vidant Health Services staff members. Door prizes, giveaways and a free lunch are also on the list of offerings.

McIntyre said there will something for every family member at the event, which he called “a time of exercise and excitement – and a way to get healthier in the process.”

Organizers are asking anyone interested in the event to register by electronic media at ccbps.org or call the church office at 252-946-6109 so there will be enough food for everyone who participates.
