Beaufort County Animal Services announced today a $20,000 grant investment from Petco Love to support their lifesaving work for animals in Beaufort County. The investment will help Beaufort County Animal Services build a dog play yard at the animal shelter located at 3931 U.S. Highway 264 East in Washington

Petco Love is a nonprofit leading change for pets nationally by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since their founding in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, they’ve empowered organizations with $300 million invested to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And, they’ve helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations nationwide.

“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Beaufort County Animal Shelter and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. Last month, we also launched the first of our national tools, Petco Love Lost, to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”

Petco Love’s investment in the new dog play yard will give dogs and puppies at the shelter much needed off lead, outdoor time so they can play and unwind. The play yard will give families considering adoption a safe place to visit and interact with a dog or puppy and will give many dogs and puppies a second chance.

“We know first-hand that exercise is important for dogs and puppies at our shelter so they can work off some energy. We want to use all resources to give our dogs and puppies the best chances at adoption and this play yard is just one of the ways we can do this. We thank Petco Love for making Beaufort County Animal Services’ dream of a play yard a reality,” said Billy Lassiter, chief at Beaufort County Animal Services and Control.
