Mrs. Brenda Kaye Cox Alligood, age 74, a resident of Slatestone Road, Washington passed away, Friday, June 11, 2021 with her family by her side after bravely fighting kidney disease.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, June 13, 2021 from the Chapel of Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington, conducted by Mike Caton and Tim Stamper. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.

The following will serve as active pallbearers: Steve Bowden, Jason Brooks, Kelly Cox, Greg Singleton, Jeff Swanner, and Kevin Swanner. Ernie Cornelius, B.B. Glisson, B.G. Woolard and Steve Woolard will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Alligood was born in Beaufort County on October 4, 1946.  She was the daughter of the late Arthur Kelly Cox, Sr., and Margie Rae Woolard Cox.  Mrs. Alligood graduated from Bath High School in 1965.  She worked as an executive secretary at Hamilton Beach before starting her family. Mrs. Alligood worked as secretary/bookkeeper at Slatestone Farm Supply for many years. Later, Mrs. Alligood worked as a server at Golden Corral.  

Mrs. Alligood was a member of Rosemary Church of Christ for 60 years and was a past Sunday School teacher.  She was a dedicated church worker that put out pine straw, planted flowers and cleaned the church. Mrs. Alligood loved taking care of her family, working in her flowers / yard, and sewing especially Nylon Trico Pillowcases. Mrs. Alligood loved the beach, enjoyed camping with her family and spending many hours with her grandchildren.  

On February 11, 1967, she married Neil Colin Alligood, who preceded her in death, May 28, 2011.

Mrs. Alligood is survived by her son Brad Alligood and wife, Lynn of Washington; two grandchildren, Parker and Olivia Alligood of Washington; three sisters, Sharon “JoJo” Singleton, Barbara “Bobbie” Woolard, Jackie Hadley; brother, Arthur Kelly “Artie” Cox, Jr., many loved nieces and nephews and special care giver, Daneen Keel.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Alligood was preceded in death by her son, Brian Colin Alligood and her sister, Sondra Lee.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at her home.
