Southside senior Jaquan Cobb’s wait to run in a state track meet paid off as he was part of the Seahawks 4 x100 meter relay team that finished fifth in 46.29 seconds and he took ninth in the 100 meters (11.73).

“It was a really fun experience, better than I imagined,” Cobb said. “It was great being among the best runners in the state.”

Juniors Hunter Leary and Kenjray Coffield along with freshman Tequon Moore joined him on the relay team.

Moore and Leary teamed with junior Victor Gonzalez and freshman Darren Joyner on the 4 x 200 relay squad that finished 11^th in 1:38.58 seconds.

Gonzalez was ninth in the 400 meters in 53.70, while Joyner tied for 12^th in the high jump.

Senior Nic Crawford was 10^th in the 110 meter hurdles in 18.19 seconds and 14^th in the 300 hurdles in 48.78.

Sophomore Ka’Nyah O’Neal led the girls with a 13^th place finish in the 300 hurdles in 56.05 and the 4 x 100 relay team of sophomore Malanda Smith and seniors Chelsea Hemby, Laquisha Woolard and Tajhe’ Speller finished 14^th.

“Our numbers were down this year because of the pandemic and we didn’t bring as many as usual, but we competed well,” coach Andre Quinerly said. “Ka”Nayah is a standout basketball player who had never run the hurdles and she made it here. The boys 4 x 100 relay exceeded my expectations and the others gained experience that will help in the future.”
