The Northside volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 sweep of Washington Tuesday evening at home.

The Panthers prevailed 25-19, 25-22 and 25-18 after a strong pre-season.

“We got better as the match went along, sixth-year head coach Michelle Leathers said. “We’ve had good practices and have done well. In our pre-season jamborees, so I’m glad to see it carry over.”

The Pam Pack (0-2) dropped their second match in as many days, but lead for a time in all three sets.

“They competed hard and made us work for every point,” Leathers said. “Our court coverage on defense and our hitting on offense made the difference. Paige Smith had some big hits for us, Hannah Baker served well and Paige Sawyer set the ball well. I really liked our hustle. I had to tell them to quit running a couple of times because I thought they were going to smash into the wall.”
