Mrs. Mollie Mont Daughtridge Bowen, age 80, a resident of Acre Station died Wednesday August 18, 2021 at her home.

A graveside memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday August 21, 2021 at Pamlico Memorial Gardens in Washington.  The service will be officiated by Kent Gurganus.

Mrs. Bowen was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on July 14, 1941, daughter of the late Giffin Caswell Daughtridge and the late Nellie Beatrice Lanier Daughtridge.  She was a 1959 graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and continued her education at UNC Greensboro and UNC Chapel Hill where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education.  On March 7, 1964 she married William Harold Bowen who preceded her in death on December 25, 2001.  As an educator she not only taught her students, but helped mold them with the needed knowledge to prosper.  She was a teacher at many schools including Aurora and Northeast Elementary Schools before her retirement.  Mrs. Bowen loved reading, cross stitch, painting, pets, and spending time with her family at the river.  She volunteered at Vidant Beaufort Hospital and was a member of UDC, Delta Kappa Gamma and Pinetown Church of Christ.

Survivors include her children: Giffin Harold “Hal” Bowen of Seaford DE and Melanie B. Simmons (Phillip) of Acre Station; a brother: Stan Daughtridge of Belhaven; grandchildren: William Phillip “Will” Simmons (Tori) of Pantego, Adam Chandler Simmons (Savanna) of Acre Station, Katherine Elizabeth Simmons of Greenville, and Faith Abagail Bowen-Pittard (Davey) of Spartanburg, SC and two great grandchildren: Carter Gray Steigerwald and Jovi Claire Simmons  Mrs. Bowen was predeceased along with her parents and husband by a brother: Dr. Truman Giffin Daughtridge and a sister: Nell Emily Munnell.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, Patient Assistance Fund, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889.
