Cleon Clinton Cayton, Sr. of Chocowinity, NC passed away peacefully on September 21, 2021. Cleon was born May 19, 1938 in Beaufort County, a son of the late Alton and Lizzie Cayton. After graduating from Chocowinity HS he served in the National Guard, worked at NC DOT and was a farmer. Cleon was preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Saad of Greenville, Marie Poore of Washington, Bunnie Rowe, Judy Godley, and Gloria Taylor all of Chocowinity; three brothers, John Cayton of Maxton, Leo Cayton of Canton, and Henry Cayton of Greenville.
Cleon is survived by his wife, Edith Stewart Cayton; daughter, Shelia Cayton Mercer of Cary, and son, Cleon “Clint” Cayton, Jr. of Chocowinity; three grandchildren, Tavner Cayton, Anna Cayton and Ethan Mercer; one great-granddaughter Mackenzie Cayton; one sister, Phebie Mills of Chocowinity,
