The threat of bad weather Friday night has caused the Anchor Bowl to be postponed until Monday at 7 p.m. at Southside High School.

The annual cross-river rivalry game between Northside and Southside has post-season implications this fall and both sides agreed to the postponement.

“We just want to play under the best conditions possible,” Seahawks coach Jeff Carrow said. “We want the biggest crowd we can get and a game in the rain won’t achieve that. It’s a big game for both schools, so we think it’s best to play Monday.”

Southside is 5-0, while the Panthers are 5-1 entering the 33rd Anchor Bowl. The Seahawks lead the series, 3-7, but the Panthers have won two in a row and three of the last four. Northside faced Washington in the first 12 games before Southside opened.

This years’ winner will be in line for the Coastal Plains Conference title and home field advantage deep into the playoffs.
