There were plenty of superlative performances from Beaufort County football players as the week stretched into Monday’s Anchor Bowl showdown at Southside.

  1. Hayes Pippin-the Washington senior quarterback has been on a roll during the Pack’s stretch of three victories in eight days. He was seemingly everywhere Friday in Snow Hill against Greene Central.

Pippin completed all 11 of his passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns, ran five times for 68 yards and another touchdown and also intercepted a pass from his safety position that stopped the Rams last scoring drive in a 58-40 victory. Pippin has completed 29 of 37 passes in the last three games with eight touchdowns and no interceptions.

  1. Mitch Godley-the Northside senior fullback set a physical tone as the Panthers won their third straight Anchor Bowl, 26-6, Monday at Southside. Godley ran for 134 yards on 14 carries and capped the first possession with a one yard touchdown run. He also made 10 tackles from his linebacker position as the Panthers went to 6-1.

  1. The Northside defense-Southside entered the Anchor Bowl undefeated, scoring 43 points a game and averaging 346 yards rushing per game. The Panthers defense pitched a shutout until midway through the fourth quarter, held the Seahawks to 88 yards rushing, recovered an early fumble that set up the first touchdown, then intercepted a pass to ice the win.

Best of the Rest: Washington: Senior tailbacks Terry Moore and Kentari Gibbs-Leathers were too much for Greene Central. Moore had 158 yards on eight carries and a touchdown, while Gibbs-Leathers chalked up 153 yards on seven tries and scored twice. Christian Norman and William Reid each caught a touchdown pass. Romel Knight led the defense with 14 tackles, while Gabe Davis had 11.

Northside: Fortino Beltran ran eight times for 61 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown, Marcus Clayton had 75 yards on seven carries, scored twice and intercepted a pass. Carson Clinkscales recorded nine tackles, while Elijah Holloway recovered a fumble.

Southside: Quarterback Walker Hill hit Manvonte DeLoach with a 40-yard scoring pass. Tequon Moore recorded 10 tackles, three for loss. Xavier Ham, Kenjray Coffield and Jamie Corprew each had eight tackles.

Pungo Christian-Quarterback Tristan Mann ran 10 times for 134 yards and scored once and also threw two touchdown passes in the Raiders 54-34 loss at Community Christian in Wilson. His brother Ethan, ran for 84 yards, scored a touchdown and converted a pair of two point tries.
