Reverend Marion S. Hammonds Jr., 86, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021. The visitation will be held on November 3, 2021 at 11 AM followed by the funeral service at 12 Noon at the Snowd Branch Church of God in Washington NC. Interment to be at Snowd Branch Cemetery.
Born in Columbus County NC on April 29, 1935 to the late M. Sidney Hammonds and Mary W. Hammonds. He later served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He was a butcher by trade and market manager before being called to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ. He retired from the ministry to Washington NC where he attended his former pastorate Snowd Branch Church of God and enjoyed many passions, among them hunting, fishing, photography, cooking, and boating.
Mr. Hammonds is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara Hilburn Hammonds, a daughter, Vickie Hammonds Peele (Alan) three sons, Marion Sidney Hammonds III (Cindy) Michael Duane Hammonds (Anessia) Arnold Scott Hammonds (Sarah), ten grandchildren, Kelly Peele Rogerson (Kevin) Stephanie Marie Hammonds (Emily) Matthew Sidney Hammonds, Christopher Alan Peele (Bridget) Kristen Hammonds Rogers (Matt) Timothy Lee Hammonds, Michael Duane Hammonds Jr., Matthew Daniel Hammonds, Samantha Hammonds Bond (Kyle) and Mitchell Dean Hammonds along with eight great grandchildren, McCray Rogerson, Raelee Rogers, Stella Rogerson, Sophie Peele, Brantley Rogerson, Wyatt Rogers, Rylee Peele, and Christopher Peele Jr. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Dawn Hammonds, and a great granddaughter, Lexi Alana Peele.
Serving as pallbearers: Matthew Hammonds, Mitchell Hammonds, Tim Hammonds, Chris Peele, Kevin Rogerson, James Hardin.
He has fought the good fight, finished the course, and kept the faith until being awarded the crown of righteousness by his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
