Top Three-Pam Pack, Panthers and Seahawks advance

The best season in recent memory for the three Beaufort County high schools continues after all three collected second-round playoff victories Friday night. Senior leaders stepped up once again to make sure their careers continued.

 

  1. Terry Moore-The super-talented tailback ran for two early touchdowns, then stripped the Burlington Cummings quarterback of the ball from his defensive back position, scooped it up and ran it in from 35 yards out for another score in the first half of the 48-40 road victory. His interception on the next possession set up another Pam Pack TD to raise their record to 10-2. Moore gained 186 yards on 21 carries.

 

  1. Hayes Pippin-Washington’s senior quarterback was pressed into middle linebacker duties because of injuries and delivered on both sides of the ball. He was 7-10 passing for 104 yards, including a 50-yard scoring strike to William Reid and ran for 111 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown as the Pam Pack earned a trip to Elizabeth City for a third round matchup against undefeated Northeastern. Pippin also made 14 tackles on defense.

 

  1. Mitch Godley-the Northside senior fullback scored three touchdowns in the Panthers first six plays as they routed Hobbton of Newton Grove, 69-20. Godley ended the night with 169 yards on 12 carries with four touchdowns on runs of seven, 27, 52 and 14 yards as the Panthers moved to 10-1. He raised his season total to 1,637 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also made seven tackles from his linebacker position.

 

Best of the Rest: Southside had multiple strong performances in the 50-0 shutout of KIPP College Prep Charter School of Gaston. The Seahawks (11-1) held the Pride to 53 total yards, all on the ground, in posting their fifth shutout and second in as many games.

Sophomore Tequan (Tater) Moore ran for 82 yards, including a 65-yard touchdown jaunt, caught two passes for 57 yards and recorded eight tackles, including two for loss. Senior Kenjray Coffield had 37 and 14-yard scoring runs for a total of 90 rushing yards and also made five tackles including one for loss. D.J. Joyner led the defense with 11 tackles including one for loss.

Elsewhere, quarterback Walker Hill went 4-4 for 90 yards and a touchdown, Jamie Corprew scored a pair of touchdowns, Alex Moore recovered a fumble and Keywon Campbell recorded a pair of tackles for loss.

Northside: Griffin Johnson intercepted two passes, including one for a 45-yard touchdown. Briley Cooper scored two rushing touchdowns of three and 20 yards, then returned an interception 60 yards to paydirt.

Marcus Clayton and Noah Manning also recorded interceptions, Clayton scored a rushing touchdown, Chase Tomani was 9-10 on extra points and freshman Max Vansant recorded his first varsity touchdown on a three yard run.

Washington: Senior William Reid caught five passes for 79 yards, including a 50-yard touchdown catch. Sophomore Gary Payne scored on a one-yard run in the fourth quarter to give the Pam Pack the lead for good and recovered a fumble. Senior Kentari Gibbs-Leathers had a 15-yard touchdown run in the final quarter that put the Pack ahead by 14 points.

Northside hosts Southside in the third round of the 1A playoffs Friday, while Washington takes on Northeastern in Elizabeth City.
