Murray Ray Whitford, age 77, a resident of Washington, died peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 18, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Washington conducted by Dr. Greg Barmer. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Steve Burnette, David Connard, Terry Cook, Stanley Edwards, Jimmy Harris, and Thurman Murphy will serve as pallbearers.
Max Gaines and members of the Bunyan Ruritan Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Mr. Whitford was born in Craven County on June 28, 1944. He was the son of the late Murray Whitford and Ione Toler Whitford. Mr. Whitford was a retired insurance agent with Beaufort County Farm Bureau. He was a member, treasurer and past Deacon of First Baptist Church and treasurer of the Bunyan Ruritan Club. He loved spending time with his family and working in the yard.
On June 26, 1966, Murray married the former Peggy Jean Sheppard, who survives.
Surviving with his wife are his son, Mike Whitford and wife, Staci of Miami Lakes, Florida; two daughters, Lisa Whitford Silva and husband, Brian of Washington, Terry Brown and husband, Ken of Conway, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Tyler, Austin, and Cody Whitford, Emma and Alex Silva, Allison Satterfield and husband Alan, Colby Brown; two great grandchildren, Brantley and Emily Satterfield; brother, Louis Whitford and wife, Mary of Washington; sister, Wilma “Kay” Whitford of Washington. He is also survived by two brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory in Washington and other times at the home.
