Mrs. Kathleen Belle Andrews Briley Whitley, age 98, a former resident of Waterford Place, Washington, died Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Ridgewood Manor Nursing Home in Washington.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington, conducted by Ray West.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM Wednesday, December 8, 2021 at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory, and other times at the home of her son, Jerry Briley, 121 Foushee Lane, Washington.

Mrs. Whitley was born in Beaufort County on November 29, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Numa Coy Andrews and Emma Leola Barber Andrews. Mrs. Whitley was a 1941 graduate of Pactolus High School. She was a machine operator at National Spinning, retiring with 35 years of service. Mrs. Whitley was a member of First Church of Christ. She cooked for her Sunday School class every month as long as her health permitted. Mrs. Whitley was a participant at the Washington Senior Center. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events.

Mrs. Whitley is survived by her son Jerry Briley and wife, Carrollynn of Washington; daughter in law, Elaine Briley of Washington; four grandchildren, Monica Waters, Kit Vick (Kevin), Buffy Hodges, Joshua Briley; five great grandchildren, Carmen Hodges, Kyle Hodges, Mason Vick, Briley Waters, Zoey Waters; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Whitley was preceded in death by three sons, Ned Briley, James Frankie Briley, Gary “Buzz” Briley; daughter in law, Estelle Briley; brother, Willard Andrews and four sisters, Regent Wrenn, Ianatha Andrews, Frances Godley and Ruth Pruitt.
