Today, Rep. Greg Murphy announced that fire departments and non-affiliated emergency service organizations have until Dec. 17, 2021 to apply for FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). Since 2001, the AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders obtain critical equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources to safeguard the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

“AFG grants are essential in supporting projects that protect the health and safety of residents and first responders in Eastern North Carolina,” said Murphy. “It is critical that our fire and emergency services personnel have the resources they need to bolster public safety and ensure that our heroic first responders can stay safe on the job. I encourage all fire departments, state fire training academies, and emergency medical service organizations to apply for this grant to help meet their needs in serving our communities.”

The AFG application period will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 17. For more information on the AFG grant, application guidance, rules, and upcoming workshops, visit fema.gov.
