As I think about Christmas and all that it means, I realize the gift of God’s love through His Son Jesus is truly the greatest gift ever given to and for all mankind.

As I think back on many Christmases from my youth, I find the answer to the question one of my grandson’s once asked me. He wondered about the best present I ever got at Christmas. I’ll share the answer with you also.

As a child, our home was always filled with Bible story books that we received as presents every year, especially the Little Golden Books that talked about Jesus and His life.

We also received Highlights Magazines for Children that we read even into our early teens.  Highlights had Bible scriptures to accompany some of the stories.

Those books and magazines made wonderful gifts especially since I loved to read, but the best present I still remember as the one I loved most came when I was six.

I got a little red record player and story records as a present.  I loved the songs on the records, but I remember watching the Tennessee Ernie Ford Show on TV and listening to a song he was singing called Some Children.

I asked Mama if I could have the record for Christmas and she got it for me. I loved that song and I still do.  I will share the words with you.   This Christmas, this song still blesses me.  The precious words are not just limited to juvenile listeners.

My Christmas prayer is that with childlike wonder, people would know the wonder of God’s amazing gift of His Son.

And, with the same childlike wonder, we would see all of God’s people, no matter what they look like, as recipients of His amazing grace and wonderous love.  Jesus is the reason for the season.   He is truly the reason for every season.  Wishing you and your families a blessed and Merry Christmas.

Some children see Him lily white,

The baby Jesus born this night.
Some children see Him lily white,
With tresses soft and fair.
Some children see Him bronzed and brown,
The Lord of heaven to earth come down.
Some children see Him bronzed and brown,
With dark and heavy hair.
Some children see Him almond-eyed,
This Savior whom we kneel beside.

Sweet Mary’s Son to whom we pray.

The children in each different place

And filled with holy light.
O lay aside each earthly thing
And with thy heart as offering,
Come worship now the infant King.
