The Washington High School varsity boys won for the second straight night, 97-62, over Northside Thursday night inside Dave Smith Gym. Fresh from a road win at SouthWest Edgecombe Wednesday, the Pam Pack (8-5) blasted out of the gate with 32 points in the first quarter on the way to 52-27 halftime lead.

All 11 players in uniform scored in the first half and senior Messiah Ebron picked up the scoring in the second half with 17 of his game-23 points off the bench.

“You can’t get more balanced than that when everybody scores in the first half,” coach David Allewalt said. “It’s always fun for the kids to play a county rival and we got up and down the floor pretty well. We haven’t practiced for five days because of the COVID-19 pause and won’t tomorrow because of weather. We have three road games next week and this win will help us.”

Gary Payne scored 13 points, Ashton Woolard had 11, while Jaylen Lampkins and Avery Smallwood had 10 each.

Junior Briley Cooper paced Northside (7-3) with 17 points. Quay Artis added 14 and Keifer Boyd had 13.

The Panthers girls broke open a close game after one quarter with an 18-6 run in the second stanza on the way to a 63-48 victory.

Sophomore Mariah Jones led the scoring with 26 points, while senior post player Shyanne Buck added 11 and freshman Olivia Jane Cahoon had 10.

“This game helped us get our legs back after over a week off,” coach Michelle Leathers said. “We pushed the ball better and moved it better out of our sets as well. We also did a good job getting it inside to Shyanne.”

Northside is 7-1 while Washington is 3-9.

Marchina Warren and Samaiya Edwards led the Pack with nine points.
