James Hodges Van Dis, age 47, a resident of Washington, NC died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022 at Vidant Beaufort Hospital from COVID complications.

James Was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan to Donald And Maude Van Dis on November 26, 1974. He attended Ann Arbor public schools and was    active in the Vocational Industrial Club of American (VICA), winning their national competition in Marine Mechanics.  He attended Washtenaw Community College and worked as a laboratory technician and the University of Michigan Highway Safety Research Institute (HSRI).  He attended Cape Fear Community College and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.  He earned a degree in history at WNCW.  He was employed as Director of Operations at Sesame Technologies in Washington.

James was married to Karen Gaddy Hackney of Washington, who preceded him in death in 2014.

He is succeeded by his parents Donald and Maude Van Dis of Wilmington, a brother John Van Dis of Union, Maine, a sister-in-law Jamie Gillette of Union, Maine, and nephew Acer Van Dis, and niece Hazel Van Dis also of Union, Maine.

There is to be no funeral service nor will there by any visitation.  Cremation has taken place at Paul Funeral Home & Crematory of Washington.
