Governor appoints four to Historic Bath Commission

Gov. Roy Cooper recently appointed four individuals to the Historic Bath Commission.

The Commission’s purpose, as outlined in state statutes, is “to acquire and dispose of title to or interests in historic properties in and near the Town of Bath in Beaufort County, and to repair, restore, or otherwise improve such properties, and to maintain them; to offer such historic properties to the State of North Carolina, subject to the acceptance of such properties by the state; to cooperate with, assist, and advise the Secretary of Natural and Cultural Resources upon any matter pertaining to the administration of Bath State Historic Site, which the Secretary of the Department may refer to it; and to carry out other programs reasonably related to these purposes.”

The following four people were appointed as members at large:

  • Dr. Warren E. Milteer, Jr, of Burlington: Milteer is an assistant professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, who has published multiple historical texts. He was awarded the Historical Society of North Carolina’s R.D.W. Connor Award in 2014 and 2016 for the best journal article in the North Carolina Historical Review.
  • Carolyn Elizabeth Moore, of Washington: Moore is the District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Rite of Adoption for the State of North Carolina. She has dedicated over 30 years to the improvement of North Carolina infrastructure and her local community.
  • Esther M. Hardin, of New Bern: Hardin served her community for over a decade on the National Membership Services Committee, a part of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. until 2021.
  • Judith H. Edwards, of Bath: Edwards retired from the Department of Social Services as a social worker. She is also a Charter Member for the Historic Bath Garden Club.
