Grover Harold Sawyer, 79, died February 24, 2022. He was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to Minnie and Harold Sawyer and raised in Washington, NC where he graduated from Washington High School in 1961. Later he attended ECU and graduated from Durham Technical College as a dental technician. Grover enlisted in the navy and spent seven years in the reserves, serving two years active duty -much of which was spent on the USS Saratoga.

Grover loved the sea and grew up sailing on the Pamlico River.

He then worked with his father in his Washington dental lab until moving to Key West, Florida in 1974, where he owned Keys Dental Clinic, which was the only dental lab in the Keys for twenty years.

He married the love of his life Carol on March 10, 1984, later joining her as a realtor and real estate investor. He bought his dream yacht -a 56’ Ketch: the “New Song”. He and Carol lived aboard for a year and a half.

Grover was an avid pilot. He owned and piloted his own planes, flying once up to Washington all the way from southern Florida.

They moved to Washington twenty-one years ago to care for his parents, during which they decided to stay.

He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, son Jason and wife Angie of Round Rock, Texas, son Brendan of Round Rock, Texas, grandson Braden Sawyer of Richmond, Virginia, granddaughter Reagan Sawyer of Round Rock, Texas, granddaughter Cierra Johnston of Wisconsin, and granddaughter Brantlie of Rock Hills, SC, a brother Rod Sawyer and wife Paula of Arvada, Colorado, one nephew David of Breckenridge, Colorado, and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life was held February 28, 2022 at Church of the Good Shepherd with burial at Asbury Methodist Church cemetery -both in Washington, NC.

The family wishes to thank Broad Creek EMS and Vidant Beaufort Hospital for their valiant efforts and Joseph B. Paul, Jr. Funeral Service.
