The Major Reading Blount Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Wednesday, April 13. Regent Cathy Whichard opened the meeting with the DAR Ritual. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance, The American’s Creed led by Cathy Waters and the Preamble to the Constitution. Prayers for Peace and Our Nation were read from the Book of Common Prayer. Fourteen members were present and welcomed two guests.

Vice Regent Betsey Lee Hodges presented a program on America 250!. The United States will mark its 250th anniversary in July 2026. DAR is committed to join the celebration by commemorating the 250 years of independence encompassing the anniversaries of events between the Boston Tea Party in 1773 and the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1783. The events will reflect on the privileges and responsibilities of living in our country and to rediscover a sense of appreciation for the remarkable series of events that led our country to this point.

A donation of $552 will be made to Crossnore Community Schools of NC after the arduous fundraising led by Lillian Hooker. A purchase of coffee was approved for the “Coffee House” on a military base in the Middle East. Members were reminded to bring their gifts for the “Shower” for the deployed female service personnel to the May 11 meeting.

The May 11 meeting will include a tour of Rose Haven followed by a covered dish lunch. Guests are welcome. Women 18 years and over with an interest in Patriotism, Education, and Historic Preservation are invited to consider membership in DAR.
