Betty Lou “Boo Boo” Elks Cutler

Mrs. Betty Lou Elks Cutler, age 79, a resident of N.C. Hwy 92, Washington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

The family received friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, May 2, 2022, at Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ.

Funeral services were held 2:00 PM Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ, conducted by Eddie Gurganus. Burial followed in Oakdale Cemetery in Washington.

Mrs. Cutler’s grandchildren served as pallbearers.

Mrs. Cutler was born in Beaufort County on February 14, 1943. She was the daughter of the late Isaac William Elks and Marjorie Clark Elks Hodges. Mrs. Cutler was a graduate of Washington High School. She was a loving wife, mother, and nanny. She also kept countless children in her home over the years for working mothers and was a creative seamstress for the public. Mrs. Cutler was a very active member of Woodard’s Pond Church of Christ. She served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, VBS director and member of the Ladies’ Aide. In her spare time Mrs. Cutler enjoyed sewing, drawing, writing poetry, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

On September 29, 1962, she married Walter Merton Cutler, who preceded her in death, October 20, 2019.

Mrs. Cutler is survived by her children, Kent Douglas Cutler of Pinetown, Kathy Cutler Boyd and husband, Robbie of Bath, Kevin Dale Cutler and wife, Tammy of Washington, Karen Cutler Jarvis of Washington; eight grandchildren, Thackory Cutler, Haley Cutler, Reece Cutler, Christopher Boyd and wife Jennifer, Shelby Boyd Geertson and husband, Philomon, Savanna Boyd, Brantley Cutler, Cameron Jarvis; two great grandchildren, Asher Geertson, Dakota Geertson; three sisters, Eva Davis, Linda Tetterton, Marlene Ingalls and brother, David Elks and countless nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Cutler was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew “A.J.” Jarvis; three brothers, LeRoy Elks, Billy Elks, Freddie Elks; sister, Jo Anne Hodges; and daughter in law, Michelle Cutler.

Friends and relatives are welcomed to visit at her home.
