The Kiwanis Club of Washington has awarded a $1,500 scholarship to a Washington High School Key Club senior.  Meagan Nicole Rapoport was honored at a recent Kiwanis Club luncheon meeting along with her grandmother, Mary Tinsley and her aunt, Maddie Callaway.

Meagan, a recent of graduate of Washington High School, told club members of her plans to attend East Carolina University (Go Pirates!) this fall.  She is uncertain of her major but currently her interest is in Customer Relations.  Meagan loves being part of a community and giving back to others.  She was an active volunteer for the Salvation Army, Thanksgiving Meal baskets for those with food insecurities, visiting and creating Christmas cards for local nursing homes, Eagles Wings food drives, and preparing meals for Ruth’s House.

In addition to her volunteerism and Honor’s grades, she found time to work at Care-O-World Early learning center, Extreme Actions Skate Park, and Home Health Services.  Her plan is to stay active in the Key Club during her college years by assisting new members with upcoming events.

Meagan feels the Washington High school Key Club has helped her to become a better citizen and to be grateful for everything in her life and has taught her what it truly means to “give oneself to others”.  Funding for the scholarships and other club projects comes from community activities including, most recently, the Kiwanis Golf Ball Drop and the annual City of Washington/Kiwanis Christmas Parade.  The Kiwanis Club of Washington meets each Tuesday for lunch at King Chicken on Carolina Avenue in Washington. The club welcomes prospective members who have an interest in service to the community.
