Jerry Wayne Gibbs, 79, of Engelhard, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at his home on North Lake Road.

Jerry was born in Hyde county on September 1, 1942, to the late Edward Sullivan and Hilda Midyette Gibbs.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Gibbs.

He was a graduate of East Hyde High School. Jerry was a commercial fisherman who had an endearing love for the Pamlico sound. He began his working career at the former Red and White in Engelhard as a butcher in the meat department. He later worked for the former East Carolina Bank where he retired from the maintenance department. He returned to the Red and White to complete his working career.

No services will be held at this time.

Surviving are two sons, Eddie Gibbs of Asheville, NC, Tadpole Gibbs (Yvette) of Engelhard; a daughter Wendi Gibbs of Greenville; four grandchildren, Brandy Allen (Tyler) of Belhaven, Allie McKeel (Josh) of Engelhard, Victoria Richmond (Taylor) of Sylva and James Kyle Gibbs of Manteo; four great-grandchildren, Christopher Privett, Lexi Privett, Tatum “Tater” Allen and Palmer “Magnolia” McKeel; three brothers, Jimmy A Gibbs (Sandra) of Middleton, Jackie Gibbs (Gloria) of Scotland Neck, Jessie R. Gibbs (Dottie) of Engelhard; one sister, Mary Jean Gibbs (Coley) of Fairfield.

Friends may visit with the family at the home place on North Lake Road, Engelhard.
