Grimesland murder under investigation

Pitt County, NC – At 8:47 a.m. on the morning of Monday, October 17, 2022, deputies from the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence at 592 Weston Rd. for a welfare check.

Deputies discovered a deceased female, the victim of a murder believed to have been committed several days prior.  The name of the victim is not being released, pending the notification of family.

Detectives state that this homicide is not believed to be a random act and there is no known current threat in the area.  Detectives do have a person of interest as a suspect.  The suspect is currently in jail charged in an unrelated case.

This case remains under investigation and further details will be released when possible.
