“The Lord giveth, The Lord taketh, blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job Ch 1 v 21
“Miss Ann” (as she was affectionately known), age 97, of 304 Ridgewood Manor, Washington, NC left this Earth peacefully in her sleep on October 31, 2022.

A celebration of Miss Ann’s life will be held at Belhaven Missionary Baptist Church at 3:00 PM Wednesday, November 2nd. Visitation will occur immediately prior from 1-3 PM. The Reverend Ken Helser (longtime friend) will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Jack Jordan, David Butcher, Milton Prince and Robbie Slade. Burial will follow at Winsteadville’s Bethany United Methodist Church.

Miss Ann was born on 4/20/1925 at 307 5th St. Dayton, KY. She was born at the house. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 55 years Mr. James Elias Ellis. They witnessed for the Lord together. Also, she was preceded in death by two sisters Alice (Jones) Craycraft and Myra Lee (Jones) Mize and her mother Tina Ann (Baugh) Jones and her father David Jones.

At a very young age she could be seen tapping out a rhythm right down the street. She always had rhythm. She played drums in the marching band in her school. And a mean set of spoons. She got her first set of drums in 1941 (Ludwig Slingers) and in 1941 quit high school to join a 12 piece all girl band (Mae Jean) In 1941 the band hit the road playing most USO’s and military bases across the U.S. supporting our troops. She met James Elias Ellis on a blind date…a train from Cincinnati to the Perdue/ Notre Dame Football game. She and “Mr. Jim” were united in marriage in Hollywood, CA on bride and groom radio on July 21st,1950. She wore a beautiful, rented dress that the actress Vivian Leigh had worn.

Mom and dad were jitterbuggers…they could tear up a dance floor and on ice and roller too. Swing band jazz was in her heart and soul. She was an incredible drummer and spoon player.

But when she became a Christian…nothing…absolutely nothing was more important to her than to witness for her Lord and Savior. She passed out hundreds of thousands of tracts over the years and would talk to you about the love of God and your life. You see…your heart…your mind and your soul were her treasure.
