It will only be another four months until drivers can resume traveling across the U.S. 17 Business  bridge, according to Sarah Lentine, a resident engineer with the North Carolina Department of Transportation. She said the project to replace the bridge is “on track” to be completed by mid-May of this year.

“The Contractor has poured the new bridge deck and is working on the approaches, they are also working on grade work for the roadway, the new waterline is completed and the new sewer is being completed,” Lentine wrote in an email to the Daily News.

The bridge, located in Chocowinity, has been closed from both directions since November 30, 2021. During the closure, traffic has detoured to U.S. 17 and U.S. 264.
